Snowmobiling
In the winter Nuorgam is a Mecca for snowmobiling. We have a varied network of routes and daytrips can be chosen from a short 20 km. ice-fishing experience to a many hundred kilometre long journey to the Arctic Ocean. There are more than 300 kilometres of marked routes in Finland and another 300 kilometres in Norway that can be enjoyed on daytrips. The routes pass through a multitude of varied terrain; while driving your snowmobile you can experience treeless mountain scenery, coniferous forest landscape as well as the passes between the mountains and also the immense ice cover of the Teno River. For each day of snowmobiling one can choose a different theme according to the scenery and terrain. When arriving at the Nuorgam Holiday Resort we are happy to offer route suggestions or you may buy local maps where the routes are marked.

If needed you can make an advance booking to hire a local guide or sledge transportation to an ice-fishing destination. The Nuorgam village has fuel pumps and a service station as well as a repair shop with spare parts for snowmobiles. Also here at the Nuorgam Holiday Resort we have a workshop with the necessary tools. In our café – restaurant you can purchase the permit to drive on the Finnish Forest and Park Services marked snowmobile routes in the area. Please note! In Norway no special permit is required. Come and enjoy - here at the top of Finland you experience top-class snowmobiling.

Although the Teno is well-known for its salmon, the Arctic char of our mountain lakes should not be undervalued. The nearest Arctic char lake is Skaidi Lake, just above the Nuorgam village, but that is only the start. There are enough lakes in both Finland and Norway to choose a different one for each fishing trip. And what a beautiful red belly the Arctic char has – come and see it for yourself. The necessary permits can be purchased from us here at the Nuorgam Holiday Resort. Guides can be booked in advance to take you to your ice-fishing destination on a sledge towed by a snowmobile. However, the best lakes, especially in Norway, are near the road and within easy skiing distance. We are happy to offer assistance in fishing matters and can also arrange all the necessary permits in advance. We also sell maps for ice-fishing in the area!

If your desire is to fish in bigger waters you can take a daytrip to the Arctic Ocean, where it is also possible to fish in the winter as well. See Fishing in the Arctic Ocean
In March it is possible to follow the workday of a local grouse trapper and join him while he checks his grouse snares. Kaldoaiv’s expansive wilderness is renowned as one of the best willow grouse areas and there are still a couple of professional trappers to be found. The trapper will tell you about his work and introduce you to this age-old profession. You will learn a great deal about nature and survival skills!

In Nuorgam you don’t need to wear tight ski attire or a sweatband on your forehead. Here we ski to the top of the treeless mountains. It is as important to enjoy the scenery and peaceful nature as it is to ski. Here if anywhere one can connect with nature and recharge our internal batteries. This place is far, far away from the daily strife and mass tourism!! Here the cross-country skiing can certainly be done on marked trails, but it is a Nuorgam speciality to ski on the treeless mountain tops.
